Under the Eames Tree

under the Eames tree framed

‘Under the Eames Tree’ geometric soft pastel abstract painting by Victoria Kloch

For the younger readers, I probably should explain why this title? The designers Charles and Ray Eames were key players in mid century art and revolutionized office and home furniture that is now considered as classic Eames. To make a long story short, after I finished this piece the title it hit me like a brick. It looked treeish, mid century with primarily colored blocks….yep….’Under the Eames Tree’. Below is a picture of the house that they called home.

Dawn

'Dawn' 4" x 4" oil painting, abstract by Victoria Kloch

‘Dawn’ 4″ x 4″ oil painting, abstract by Victoria Kloch

‘Dawn’ is the fourth painting of my series of small oil paintings in the collection I call ‘Women’. Dawn is the youngest of my two daughters. Little sister to Tara, the mother of Riley and Lillian Victoria. David and I wanted have two children so when it came time to expand our family my little Dawn entered the world. 8 lbs and 13 ounces of pure perfection.  Dawn’s nature is gentle with just enough of what it takes to keep you on your toes. She’s as sweet as can be yet a spit fire of a girl all in one delightful package. This color palette was inspired by my beautiful Dawn’s warmth and loyalty in the warm buttery yellows of Vincent Van Gogh.

About this Collection

This is one of many small oil paintings in my series titled ‘Women’. They each represent family, friends and other women who bring inspiration in our daily lives. This project started out as a study for future color palettes for my larger paintings and emerged as little gems. At first when it came time to name each piece, I realized that each had their own personalities and reminded me of individuals that have touched my life in some way.

Catherine

I’m looking for a name?

'Untiled 1002' "9x12" watercolor gouache painting by Victoria Kloch

‘Untitled 1002’ “9×12” watercolor gouache painting by Victoria Kloch

I’m looking for a name.  What’s would be your first impression on this abstract watercolor?  Purple and Green are not the colors I visit very often although I’m fond of this combination.  I suppose that it’s not necessary to name each piece, but it just feels a little unfinished leaving it untitled to me. What do you think?

Commissioned artwork

Artwork for ErinThis was a two part commissioned piece that I was asked to do for a client back East. I wanted to create each piece to stand on its own merit if separated and when together complement. The printing on the left  24″ x 24″ and on the right 24″ x 30″.

We worked closely together toward finding the perfect color palette for her living room  and here you have it.

‘Blackbird Fly’ 11″ x 14″ watercolor abstract by Victoria Kloch

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life, You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life, You were only waiting for this moment to be free

Blackbird fly, blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night

You were only waiting for this moment to arise
