‘Quinn’ 4″ x 4″ oil painting by Victoria Kloch

I love this name. Quinn is drawn from the Gaelic surname, O’Cuinn, Quinn represents wisdom and intelligence. People with this name often have a deep inner desire to create and express themselves, with public speaking, acting, writing or singing. They are drawn to the arts, and often enjoy life immensely. They are often the center of attention, and enjoy careers that put them in the limelight. Quinn’s also yearn to have beauty around them in their home and work environment.

About this Collection

This is one of many small oil paintings in my series titled ‘Women’. They each represent family, friends and other women who bring inspiration in our daily lives. This project started out as a study for future color palettes for my larger paintings and emerged as little gems. At first when it came time to name each piece, I realized that each had their own personalities and reminded me of individuals that have touched my life in some way.

Iris

Iris was the name of the Greek goddess of the rainbow. The only Iris that I know is my sister’s Macaw. She has glorious colored feathers. I would say that this was a perfect name for her.

I love doing this type of geometric work. The challenge here was trying to keep it painterly within the structured shapes. The heavy bodied paper that I used drinks every bit of moisture making it a constant struggle to get any paint movement to reveal itself. I do love the light open feel in the end. Diebenkorn, you are the master. If you were still here today, I would be stalking you.

To those who are interested in owning original art and helping an American family in Malaysia. I have lowered my prices on Etsy and I would LOVE to donate 10% of any profits on my sales to this wonderful family. My friend is suffering with health issues and is in need of financially help to make ends meet. He is an artist painter/photographer who lost his job at the university due to cut backs. On top of that, he suffers with ‘Iritis’ and needs frequent medical attention. Thank you for reading this and know that your investment on any painting will be helping others. _ Victoria

On my painting titled ‘Riley’, I used one of my favorite colors to paint with. Oh how I love Paynes Grey. I like using this instead of black because it looks so crisp and clean with just a bit of  POW in a delicate way.

Gudo smiled. “Everything in this life is impermanent,”he explained. “Life is very brief. If you keep on gambling and drinking, you will have no time left to accomplish anything else, and you will cause your family to suffer too.” The perception of the husband awoke as if from a dream. “Your are right,” he declared. “How can I ever repay you for this wonderful teaching! Let me see you off and carry your things in a little way.”

I am currently working with ink. This is a very exciting direction for me. I find this a valuable way to study hue and composition in modern abstract painting. I have quite a few completed so I’ll be posting more as time goes by. In my heart, I am a minimalist though I fight the tendency to get complicated in my work. So, this is a good exercise for me just as much as it plays a calming, relaxing moment in time.

“If we study Japanese Art, we see a man who is undoubtedly wise, philosophic and intelligent, who spends his time doing what? In studying the distance between the earth and the moon? No. In studying Bismark’s policy? No. He studies a single blade of grass.” _Vincent Van Gogh
