When I started this project I didn’t expect to feel so emotional. At the beginning I realize just how fortunate I have been to have so many wonder examples of womanhood growing up. This is my painting titled ‘Hilda’. Hilda, my Grandmother and best friend. I was her first-born Granddaughter. My Grandmother loved the color green. She loved to fish and make things with her hands. She thought me how to knit and crochet. Oh the cakes that she baked from scratch. You don’t even know what fun is unless you have been to Poker night when our family got together to play after dinner. Guess what, it was Hilda that usually raked in the jackpot.
But what I remember most of all about my Grandmother is this one thing, she knew how to love and she loved her family.
Bombie, I miss you.
About this Collection
This is one of many small oil paintings in my series titled ‘Women’. They each represent family, friends and other women who bring inspiration in our daily lives. This project started out as a study for future color palettes for my larger paintings and emerged as little gems. At first when it came time to name each piece, I realized that each had their own personalities and reminded me of individuals that have touched my life in some way.
