Barbara, to her family known as Mother, came into my life when I married her youngest son. She was the mother to ten children and raised them in a one room school-house in Pennsylvania. Mother was born of Polish descent, her ways did not require all of the frills of the world. Her quiet nature portrayed inner strength with an intellectual mind. Life was not always easy for her. The modern conveniences that we take for granted such as running water, she fetched from the well. Indoor plumbing did not exist in the one room school-house. I loved her and miss her dearly. The respect I have for her is far beyond words. I hope to show that her strength and beauty was the inspiration for this painting.
About this Collection
This is one of many small oil paintings in my series titled ‘Women’. They each represent family, friends and other women who bring inspiration in our daily lives. This project started out as a study for future color palettes for my larger paintings and emerged as little gems. At first when it came time to name each piece, I realized that each had their own personalities and reminded me of individuals that have touched my life in some way.
